The myths Facebook tells its employees are breaking down – Source fastcompany.com

When you run a business whose very design lends itself to nefarious—even dystopian—uses, you need a set of carefully crafted narratives to keep your mainly younger, liberal-minded workforce feeling good about coming to work every day. Sometimes the high salaries and wicked perks just aren’t enough.

Now is one of those times. Facebook employees are complaining loudly after CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s decision last week to allow a Donald Trump Facebook post to remain, unlabeled, on the social network. The post encouraged the use of force to put down nationwide protests against the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, and included the historically loaded statement “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.” That recalled the statement of Miami’s police chief circa 1968 and was interpreted by many Facebook employees as a call to violence.
